OPET continues to contribute to social improvement with its social responsibility projects, and for its “Traffic Detectives Project” in which it had educated 1 million and 900 thousand students between age 3 to 17 from 81 provinces until now, was awarded the “Good Practice” award in the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards, organized by TİSK. OPET General Manager Cüneyt Ağca received the award from Democratic Left Party (DSP) General Chairman Önder Aksakal at the ceremony held at Çırağan Palace, and attended by Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security Dr. Serhat Ayrım and TİSK Chairman of the Board Yağız Eyüboğlu.
Mentioning OPET’s distinguishing social responsibility approach in its sector in his speech at the ceremony, OPET General Manager Cüneyt Ağca said "We, as OPET, have been actively executing social responsibility projects in every area Turkey needs, since the year 2000. In this sense, we are fulfilling our responsibility as the only local company among the giants of our sector. We thought that preventing traffic accidents, one of the major problems of Turkey, every year causing the deaths of approximately 4 thousand people, injuries of more than 250 thousand people, creating a burden on economy of 1 billion TRY, would start by educating our youth and raising awareness for them, and we started from the core. Starting the project, our goal was to reach 1.5 million students at the end of 3 years but before the end of the 3rd year of the project, we raised awareness for approximately 2 million children and teenagers on safe traffic and also, indirectly reached their families. On this topic, we have a long way ahead of us… We will continue our practices with the same awareness. We will continue working to turn Turkey into a country with a safe traffic and a comfortable transportation by contributing to raise a brand new generation, who has a feeling of responsibility".
According to a statement by TİSK, 9 companies were awarded out of 58, which were evaluated in terms of inclusiveness, effectiveness, good practice, innovation, sustainability. Among awards determined as a result of the assessment of a jury consisting of the representatives of politicians, journalists and NGOs; OPET was awarded for the roadmap it followed, and the activities it performed for the Traffic Detectives Project.
The Traffic Detectives Project, implemented with the support of OPET and in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, General Directorate of Security, and Socialization-Solidarity Association For Policemen’s Wives (PEKAY) aims to turn future driver candidates into individuals, who are fully familiar with traffic rules and taking responsibility on this matter. The aim of the project is to create a permanent solution for the prevention of traffic accidents through courses to be given, in the first place, to teachers and then to children and young people on 9 main topics. Unlike conventional education, children and young people will be given the title of “Traffic Detective", which is expected to cause them to exhibit a conscious behavior model on the subject of traffic. Accordingly, the provided training sessions are organized under the headings of traffic signs and boards, safety belts and child protection systems, pedestrian crossing, use of overpasses and underpasses, safe use of bicycles, pedestrian safety, visibility, safe journey in a vehicle, crossing the road and safe play areas.
